Technology
Our MSAR® technology produces a low viscosity oil-in-water emulsified synthetic fuel oil or biofuel. It is a proprietary technology to mix heavy residual oils with small amounts of specialist chemicals and water to a bespoke formulation. The resulting MSAR® emulsion contains approximately 30% water and less than 1% chemicals. The emulsion is a low viscosity liquid at room temperature, which makes it easier to handle and reduces the heating costs for storing, transportation and use in comparison to heavy fuel oil (HFO).
In addition, our MSAR® technology pre-atomises oil or bio-oil droplets within the emulsion and makes them 10-20 times finer than the droplets formed from atomising liquid fuels; this means that MSAR® burns almost completely, like a gas. This leaves virtually no particulate “black carbon” in the exhaust, making it more environmentally friendly.
Quadrise is the licensor of MSAR® technology and offers fully integrated solutions for oil refiners, terminals and end users.
We have also developed bioMSAR™ based on the core MSAR® technology, replacing some of the fossil content and water with waste-based renewable biofuels that can be either oil or water soluble.
MSAR® technology differs from water-in-oil emulsion systems that are deployed at the point of consumption to inject typically 10-15% water (See Benefits).
